This blog started out as an idea to follow the students progress in my Bits'n'Pieces patchwork and quilting class. We meet on a Thursday morning, at Kimz Sewing Center on the Sunshine Coast. The class is a relaxed and informal get together, with the girls bringing along their original patterns, projects or kits to work on. I am there to offer guidance, advice and creative inspiration.

Well the ladies are having a great time making the centers for their medallion quilts..... Over the last 2 classes they have been making split 4 patches for the first border.....which is 4" wide....a bit of a challenge for all of us.....also a lot of fun....
Libby's
Deb's
Angela's
Today we (they) are starting the second border with machine applique......and will be drawing up their own designs using basic equipment like plates/bowls to mark curved lines...... also they will be making bias strips and using a twin needle for applique..... I'm looking forward to today's class as these are techniques that they have not tried before....... Until next time happy stitching.......Cathy
I had a lovely day yesterday with the ladies from the Thursday Class........we went to the International Womans Day luncheon.....which was organised and sponsored by Bev Percel at Maleny Magic..... We enjoyed a delicious lunch with a glass of wine...we were wooed by Kim from the original Ten Tenors.....and then we listen to the amazing Judy Hooworth for an hour.....and I would have loved to have listened to her for another hour or more.....she was very inspiring and her quilts.....OMG.....
The colour Judy uses and how she uses colour is amazing.......I'm so inspired I was ready to go home empty my cupboard and drag out all my orange and purple fabric and start another quilt........but by the time I got home I had calmed down and rationalized the process I decided that maybe I should finish some of my many, many UFO's first.......and then thinking that, I thought, 'oh well'... that gives me some time to collect more orange and purple fabrics........
and here is a photo of Judy and myself
We all had such a great day and we got to spend a little more time with Judy back at Bev's shop....such a lovely lady Cathy
At class last Thursday Deb bought in her finished quilt........
Deb has done a fantastic job ......love the border.. The ladies are powering along with their Medallion quilts......
We are machine appliqueing the tops......Libby is using blanket stitch......Deb is doing satin stitch.....and Angela is doing raw edge applique...... The choice for the first border was selected by Deb and she chose a split 4 patch......the first block we made up turned into a 16 patch.....the second go turned out perfectly.....I'm looking forward to seeing them stitched together.......
Here is Pat's table runner.....such beautiful Autumn tones......
This is another runner Pat made over the holidays......Red...black and white.....is so striking..... Happy stitching ....... Cathy
